<Performance Information>
Makoto Shinkai, an animation director who has won numerous awards for his record-breaking hit animated films "Your Name," "Weathering with You," and "Sparrow's Door Lock," released his first feature film, "Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place," in 2004. This work was also adapted for the stage in 2018, and will be performed as a new reading orchestra concert.
The film will be dramatically revived 20 years after its release, combining famous scenes read by popular artists, live orchestral performances and footage from the original work.
This special reading orchestra concert will make use of director Makoto Shinkai's original work and will depict the story in a three-dimensional way, centering on the youthful days of three classmates, while also weaving in elements from the stage adaptation, such as the adults surrounding them who are torn between the north and the south.
The lead role of Fujisawa Hiroki will be played by Sato Ryuga of "Bishonen," a singer, actor, and fashion model. The role of Sawatari Sayuri will be played by Suzuki Airi in the Tokyo performance and Ohara Sakurako in the Osaka performance. The role of Shirakawa Takuya will be played by Nakamura Ryudai of the six-member male group "LIL LEAGUE," who is skilled in dancing, singing, and rapping. Also appearing will be Mizuki Arisa, Kurenai Yuzuru, Kuroda Koran, and EBiDAN, a nine-member evolved mixture unit of "SUPER★DRAGON." KOKI TANAKA Talented actors such as Taiyo, Kashiwagi Hinata, and Hashimoto Satoshi also appear, adding color to the characters that appear in the story.
The music will be supervised by Masataka Matsutoya, a melody maker and music producer who has created many masterpieces by arranging the beautiful and sad music by Tenmon, the original composer, for a new orchestra. The Grand Philharmonic Tokyo, which is responsible for a wide range of genres from classical to modern music, popular music, and movie and anime soundtracks, will perform as a full orchestra and liven up the world of the work with a powerful performance under the baton of Fumiaki Murakami. The cast members will sing the theme songs and other songs, making this the only opportunity you can enjoy them at the Special Reading Orchestra Concert.
The Tokyo performances will be held on Tuesday, November 5th and Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, for a total of three performances at Sumida Triphony Hall (Koto-ku, Tokyo), and the Osaka performances will be held on Wednesday, November 20th of the same year, for a total of two performances at NHK Osaka Hall (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture).
<Synopsis>
Another world where Japan is divided into North and South by the Tsugaru Strait. People are torn apart, and a mysterious tower stands tall in occupied Ezo (Hokkaido). Two boys, Hiroki and Takuya, who live in Aomori, on the opposite side of the border, build a plane they call Verashiela and promise to fly to the tower with Sayuri, a girl they admire. However, Sayuri suddenly transfers to a new school, and time passes without the promise being kept. Eventually, friction between the straits increases, and as the secrets of the tower are revealed, the promise from that time becomes a key that binds the three together again. Will the plane carrying their hopes fly to the promised land in order to restore the "future" that should be?

<Message from the performers>
KOKI TANAKA (played by Noboru Hashimoto)
I am truly honored to be involved in director Makoto Shinkai's work in the form of a reading play with an orchestra.
I want to make a film that will be appreciated by many people without destroying the image of the story that the director has drawn. Also, my family has played in an orchestra, so I felt that it was a good connection and I was very happy.
It's a genre of music I love, so I'm really happy to be able to perform with so many fantastic performers with that music as a backdrop.
I hope to deliver a performance that is just as good as that of the other performers.
